Axis and Reverb Combine to Supply World's Most Sophisticated Remote Radio
Axis Network Technology Ltd, leader in innovative wireless broadband technology, has delivered the first batch of the world’s most sophisticated 8 channel remote radio heads to ReVerb Networks. Combining the Axis flexible platform with ReVerb’s BeamMakerTM digital beamforming technology and antenna arrays creates active antenna systems capable of achieving 2 to 3 times network capacity gain. The system can also provide true antenna sharing between operators under the control of ReVerb's network wide antenna management software. Alternatively, the flexible architecture allows standards based, per user beamforming to be implemented under the control of the OEM base station.
The BeamMakerTM products allow wireless broadband operators to spatially reuse radio frequency spectrum through High Order Sectorization of existing cell sites thus increasing their network capacity at dramatically reduced CAPEX and OPEX. Under the control of ReVerb's adaptive algorithms, Self Optimized Radio Networks are achieved, continuing to drive down costs and drive up performance.
The 8 channel smart antenna remote radio head (RRH) platform which enables 4G wireless broadband for both WiMAX and LTE TDD provides huge capacity and will be used to upgrade mobile networks in densely populated areas. As the consumer demand for mobile data increases exponentially, with the growth of HD video and software applications, high capacity solutions will be required by 4G wireless broadband operators to meet that demand and prevent a capacity crunch.
The software defined RRH is available against a wide frequency band and has both multi-mode and multi-carrier capabilities. In addition to providing world leading amplifier efficiency through patented linearization techniques, new technology has been developed for beamforming self calibration.
“Beamforming and beam steering are the future,” says Simon Mellor, CEO of Axis, “and the 8 channel smart antenna RRH we have developed with ReVerb is currently the world’s most sophisticated remote radio. There are a lot of forecasts predicting a data capacity crunch within a few years and this is the technology that can help prevent that. This radio represents the peak of technological achievement in this area to date but our focus on innovation means that we are already working on the next big step forward.”
Bill Carlin, CEO of ReVerb Networks, said “The increased capacity provided by BeamMakerTM smart antenna can reduce operator Total Cost of Ownership for 4G networks by over 50% through significantly reducing the number of basestations. Any carrier currently looking at developing WiMAX or LTE networks should be very excited about this development“
