8x8 Smart Antenna Solutions can reduce TCO by over 50%

Axis 8x8 smart antenna technology can switch between beam forming and beam steering modalities. The beam forming solution allows wireless broadband operators to spatially reuse radio frequency spectrum and increase their network capacity. The beam steering solution goes a massive technological step further as smart antenna steer a focused beam at each user dramatically increasing overall capacity

A recent study by Analysys Mason demonstrates that operators can save more than half of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a 4G network through using an 8 antenna beam forming system An 8x8 antenna beam forming system offers significantly greater coverage (225%) and capacity (47%) than 2 antenna standard non beam forming systems. The combination of greater coverage and capacity typically results in the former requiring 69% fewer sites. However, although the more capable 8 antenna beam forming radios are more expensive than their 2-antenna non beam forming radio counterparts the TCO is much lower. Operational expenditure is the dominating cost item over a five-year period accounting for 60–70% of the total costs associated with each site. Consequently, the reduction in site count for the 8-antenna systems completely overwhelms the higher costs of the radios, resulting in a roughly 63% TCO reduction for the access network over the five-year period. Beam steering technology will enhance these savings even further
